Preschool Pretend Dino Dig
STOMP, STOMP....ROAR! Dinosaurs are a love of my preschool age kids. There is just something about these big powerful creatures, that we have never met that is just fascinating. My students play with dinosaurs a lot, so I knew I had create a unit to help my children learn about what they love!
Is there a better way to explore dinos than at a pretend DINO DIG? Yea, I didn't think so either. So, I whipped up this quick dino dig pretend play center and voila- happy, engaged learning kids!
This pretend play center was pretty easy to put together. I just added play sand to a long shallow tub and hid dino skeletons (these are the exact ones from Amazon) in the sand. The students used paintbrushes (3 to a pack at the Dollar Tree), a measuring tape (Dollar Tree), a flashlight, goggles and a magnifying glass. We also had a guide of dinosaurs (as seen in the bottom left picture). These dinos match up to most of the dino skeletons that are hiding in the bin, so that the kids can use the skeleton to figure out which dino they found.
It was a fun week with dinos and this Dino Dig did not disappoint. If you looking for the labels, dino guide and signs you see in the picture above, I have a Dino Dig pack for sale. Just click below!
